Brief - Commercial Street Reborn

The site I will look to develop is commercial road, specifically the high street and town centre. This area has been a centre of trade and community for years, but in recent years has lost what it once was, so it is my goal to bring this area back into the heart of the community.

“In this module, final year students are asked to generate urban design proposals in a given location, based on the definition of programmatic criteria identified via critical analysis and interpretations.”

My goal within this project is to take the existing area of commercial road, Portsmouth, and develop a new urban proposal for a new generation. This will start with a study into the area with a critical analysis, where I will look at several key factors influencing the site such as transport, population, existing buildings etc.

After which I will begin development on my urban proposal itself, which will be influenced and changed according to key factors found within my critical analysis.

The once busy town centre has seen a decline in recent years, and its up to us to breath new life into the site.
